Rainbow Aviation Services and Rotax Flying & Safety Club Partner to Accelerate and Expand the Maintenance Training for both A&P’s and Repairman for the Light Sport Aircraft Category.

October 14, 2008

The participants of the 120 hour Light Sport Repairman Maintenance course held at EAA Headquarters September 8-26, 2008, were pleased to learn that along with their certificate of completion for the LSA Repairman Course, they had also complete all of the requirements for the Service Program endorsement required for the type specific training for Service inspections for Rotax Aircraft Engines.

“This arrangement will result in a more efficient, accelerated training program for the light sport mechanic with less cost in both time and money. This was an easy match, since all of the requirements in the newly written Rotax Flying & Safety Club program, which is the model for the Rotax® syllabus of the Service program currently accepted for LSA training, matches perfectly with the engine module requirements of the maintenance course,” said Carol Carpenter, one of the instructors for the course.

The Repairman Maintenance Rating allows you to perform the maintenance, the annual condition inspection, and the 100 hour inspections (required on aircraft used for hire) on Special Light Sport Aircraft and Experimental Light Sport Aircraft and charge for your services.

RFSC program developer Eric Tucker has worked closely with Rainbow Aviation and Rotax® arranging training engines, tools, and manuals to be used in the Repairman Maintenance course. “Our joint efforts will result in participants benefiting from a more accelerate and expanded training. RFSC has received support from Rotax® and they have generously placed a Rotax® 912 training engine as well as support material and manuals for the course,” Carol added. “Our joint efforts will result in customers benefiting from a more extensive hands-on experience while earning two certificates in one course.

“Our companies share a vision for the light sport aviation community. Based on this shared vision and the expected benefits to each company and our respective customers, it is natural that we would work together,” Tucker said.

The planned arrangement, which is set out in a letter of intent, is expected to provide broad benefits to consumers, by fostering quicker, broader and more efficient implementation of skilled mechanical training for the light sport aircraft, than either company could accomplish on its own.
